Kaizer Chiefs FC Transfer Update: Lilepo's Libyan Move
Kaizer Chiefs FC has concluded the transfer of Glody Makabi Lilepo to Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi, with the Congolese midfielder signing a two-year deal on improved terms.
What happened?
Lilepo was already on a hefty package at Chiefs, where his contract was improved twice through the 18 months that he spent at the club. His first six months were on terms which were then improved upon the start of the 2025/26 season and again in January as Chiefs showed intention in how much they valued him.
Why it matters for Kaizer Chiefs FC
The transfer made all business logic as Chiefs pocketed more than what they paid when they recruited Lilepo from French third division club Valenciennes in January 2024. The contract in Libya becomes one of the best that the 29-year-old has signed through his career with appetising terms.
What comes next?
Lilepo is already in Libya and has started training with his new employers. The top five clubs in the Moroccan Premier League last season - MAS Fez, RS Berkane, Raja Casablanca, AS FAR, and Wydad Casablanca all made enquiries, with two of those clubs then sending offers to Chiefs. However, Al Ahly Benghazi then entered the race and within three weeks went to the front of the queue by accompanying their interest with a concrete offer which was accepted by Chiefs.
