Kaizer Chiefs FC have dropped one place to fourth in the Premier Soccer League standings after a 1-1 draw away to Polokwane City. The result at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday allowed AmaZulu to move above them into third spot following their own 1-0 victory.
AmaZulu's win over Marumo Gallants at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban pushed them to 13 points from six matches, one point clear of Chiefs who now have 12. The Glamour Boys' own result was confirmed by the club on social media, which posted the 'Full time score' with a graphic of the 1-1 draw.
How the points were shared
Lebohang Maboe gave Kaizer Chiefs the lead in the 29th minute, finishing an assist from Pule Mmodi. The advantage lasted until the 73rd minute when an own goal from goalkeeper Brandon Petersen brought Polokwane City level. The draw extends Chiefs' unbeaten run in the league to five matches, a sequence that reads two wins and three draws.
That form has them sitting eight points behind runaway leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. The team's recent results show a capacity to score, with 12 goals in six games, but also a tendency to concede late, as seen in the 3-2 win over Siwelele where they conceded twice after the 68th minute.
Looking ahead, the focus turns to maintaining their unbeaten streak and converting draws into wins to close the gap at the top. The next challenge comes quickly, with the next fixture detailed on our fixtures schedule. Coach Cavin Johnson will want a sharper defensive display from a squad whose full roster is listed on our squad page.
