Kaizer Chiefs FC have learned they will face Zambian side Red Arrows in the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round next month. The Amakhosi, who received a bye in the first round, will host the first leg over the weekend of 16-18 October, with the return fixture in Zambia the following weekend.

Red Arrows secured the tie with a commanding 4-0 aggregate victory over FC Rogue, winning the second leg 2-0 on Sunday. Football analyst Uche Anuma believes Kaizer Chiefs should handle this hurdle. "Kaizer Chiefs should make it to the group phase of the CAF Confederation Cup because I don't see Red Arrows stopping them in the preliminary round," Anuma said.

He pointed to the team's domestic form as a reason for confidence. "Chiefs have been decent in the open games of the Betway Premiership this season, and I expect them to take the form to continental football."

Domestic form provides platform

The side currently sits fourth in the Premier Soccer League with 12 points from six games, unbeaten in their last five outings. Their most recent result was a 1-1 draw away to Polokwane City on 12 September, where Lebohang Maboe scored before an unfortunate own goal.

This continental campaign offers a chance to build on last season's historic achievement, where Kaizer Chiefs defeated AS Simba of the DR Congo to reach the group stages for the first time ever. Repeating that feat is the clear target.

Squad questions remain

The build-up to the tie will likely involve scrutiny of certain positions, with club legend Brian Baloyi having recently raised concerns over goalkeeper and captain Brandon Petersen's performances. Baloyi questioned Petersen's approach and suggested increased competition could add pressure.
