Bernard Parker has spoken publicly for the first time since his departure from TS Galaxy and the end of his personal relationship, issuing a statement on his personal struggles. The former Kaizer Chiefs striker was removed from his head coach position at the Rockets and has confirmed his separation from businesswoman Kacha Stepanovic.

Parker released the statement via his Instagram Stories, announcing the end of their three-year relationship. "I apologise for disappointing and hurting my wife, while acknowledging that I was dealing with personal struggles," he said. He expressed gratitude for her love and support, acknowledged personal shortcomings and mistakes, and stated he had struggled with addictions that affected his life and loved ones. Both parties have committed to co-parenting their blended family.

TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi confirmed Parker’s exit from the head coach role, which he had been promoted to towards the end of the 2025/26 season. Parker had joined the club as a player in 2022, spent two seasons on the pitch, and moved into coaching after retirement, initially working with the reserve side before guiding the first team to the Nedbank Cup final, where they lost to Durban City.

Playing Legacy

The public statement has prompted fans to reflect on his decorated decade at Kaizer Chiefs, where the forward affectionately known as 'Die Hond' won four trophies. Parker first rose to prominence at Benoni Premier United before his overseas move and subsequent long-term success at Naturena.

The news comes as his former club, Kaizer Chiefs, prepares for a key Soweto Derby. The Amakhosi sit fourth in the Betway Premiership with 14 points from eight games, and their next fixture is away to second-placed Orlando Pirates on 31 October. They are unbeaten in their last four league matches, a run that includes three draws and a win, with their most recent result a 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch last week.

Public Reaction

Parker’s candid admission triggered widespread discussion on social media about mental health, accountability, and the pressures on athletes transitioning to coaching. "I urge the public to respect my privacy as I navigate this period of change," Parker added in his statement. His next move in football remains unclear, with no new coaching appointment confirmed.
