Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Keletso Sifama has spoken about the epileptic seizures that occurred during his time at the club, detailing a health battle that impacted his early career. The 23-year-old, now with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Gomora United, said the episodes happened while playing for Chiefs, during a loan at Pretoria Callies, and even on national team duty.
Sifama came through the DStv Diski Challenge to feature for the Chiefs first team before loan spells at Maritzburg United, Pretoria Callies, and Casric Stars. He does not blame his eventual departure from Naturena solely on his health, stating the decision was made by the club. With age and treatment, he says the seizures have healed.
Rebuilding at Gomora United
His move to Gomora United represents a chance to rebuild. Sifama views it as a valuable opportunity to prove he can still operate in a professional setup. He maintains a strong belief that hard work could see him return to the Premier Soccer League, even suggesting a future back at Kaizer Chiefs is possible. Faith and prayer, he added, are what keep him going.
Chiefs' current standing
As Sifama looks ahead, his former club is handling its own campaign. Kaizer Chiefs currently sit fourth in the Premier Soccer League with 13 points from seven games. Their next test is a home fixture against seventh-placed Stellenbosch on 17 October, a match featured in our fixtures.
Sifama, who also had a stint at Sekhukhune United, earned junior international caps earlier in his career. His message is one of perseverance, encouraging others facing challenges to maintain their belief. He prepares for Gomora United's upcoming league match against Upington City at Malamulele Stadium this weekend, focused on the path back.
