Kaizer Chiefs FC's second consecutive appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup has come with the benefit of a first preliminary round bye ahead of the draw today. CAF will conduct the draw for the two inter club competitions for men today in Cairo, Egypt. The order of events in matters relating to teams entering the second-tier competition has given Chiefs the advantage of being rated in the top eight entrants. These teams include Al Ahly, USM Alger, CR Belouizdad, Raja Casablanca, and AS FAR Rabat amongst others which will not play in the first qualifying round. Chiefs were initially set to play in the first qualifying round but with issues around the Congo Brazzaville's entrant it has paved the way for Fernando da Cruz's team to enjoy a bye. With that development, Chiefs' home game at Royal Bafokeng against Siwelele will still be played on a weekend date - September 5. If Chiefs had been involved in the first qualifying round in the Confederation Cup, then this league match will have been pushed to a midweek date and affect the numbers in the stands. Chiefs last played a league match at Royal Bafokeng on May 14, 2023, against SuperSport United. Royal Bafokeng will be the other alternative home for the club this season which is where they will also host TS Galaxy on December 15. Their trip to Polokwane City on September 12 will also not be affected with a full house expected at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Chiefs will then start their continental campaign in October and if they proceed then they will play in the group stages start in November. Today's draw will determine who Chiefs meet in the second qualifying round on October 16-18 and October 23-25. Durban City's name will go into the first qualifying round pot.
